Caen Memorial, Centre for History and Peace

On Sunday we visited the Caen Memorial, Centre for History and Peace (www.memorial-caen.fr) .  A museum situated just inland of Caen detailing key moments of World War II and in particular the D-Day landings and Battle of Normandy.

The Human Toll

USSR             21m
China              20m
Germany         7m
Poland             5.6m
Yugoslavia      1.5m

We all found the visit very overwhelming and there was an air of silence on the way back to Tinchebray.  Each of us sharing in a discussion later on in the evening on what we had experienced from the exhibitions.

Thank you to our host and  the Leonardo Lifelong Learning Programme for enabling us to visit such historic places to recall that critical period of European history.
